In today’s tech-obsessed world, social media platforms are the perfect stage to showcase the world’s beauty and travelers’ experiences, but travel is so much more than just getting that perfect Instagram shot. Travel should be meaningful, stimulating, and motivating.

It should enthuse and inspire you to live the greatest stories and irreplaceable experiences and facilitate your understanding on what really matters. Travel, in other words, is a basic human desire. We’re a migratory species, even if our migrations are sometimes powered by the needs of our priorities.

Travel Allows You to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone and Makes You Happier.

Traveling to new places allows you to get out of your comfort zone and your daily grind and take on new incredible experiences, and challenges.  Moreover, traveling will inevitably make you more confident and ready to deal and cope with a lot of unexpected circumstances. If you travel, you will not only learn about foreign cultures but about your own as well.

Furthermore, traveling around the world will make you happier as well. According to a research paper named Waiting for Merlot: Anticipatory Consumption of Experiential and Material Purchases by Amit Kumar from Cornell University, experiential purchases (money spent on doing) tend to provide more enduring happiness than material purchases (money spent on having).

The research paper also states that “waiting for experiences tends to be more positive than waiting for possessions.” And, it also suggested that “people derive more happiness from the anticipation of experiential purchases and that waiting for an experience tends to be more pleasurable and exciting than waiting to receive a material good.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.Derrick Addington

When life and work start to feel like each day is repeating itself, you may start thinking about traveling. Maybe you have a place you like to go to once a year, or maybe you enjoy exploring new places. People have different preferences, some like the beach more than the mountains. Some are happy about exploring different cities and villages while others prefer solo traveling. But the thing that matters most is traveling, not the forms of it.

In fact, several scientific research papers suggest that getting away – and it doesn’t even matter where exactly you’re going – is an indispensable practice of effective thinking. It’s not about a trip, relaxation, or tasting the exceptional Cretan cuisine in a village located near the White Mountains, it’s about the tedious act itself, putting some kilometers between home and wherever you happen to spend the night.

Travel Lets You Disconnect & Recharge.

Many agree that the most literal aspect of travel is time. Thanks to innovative and latest engine technologies, we can now move through space at an insensitive speed. The average walker in Greece moves at 5km per hour, which is 245 times slower than the cruising speed of a Boeing 737.

There’s something inherently beneficial about such fast movement, which provides us the opportunity to switch our physical locations exceptionally fast. For the first time in human history, we can travel from Europe to the USA and from one climate to another in a few hours.

Travel exposes us to diverse cultures and ancient traditions and through these authentic encounters, we learn to lend a helping hand to those in need, embrace and celebrate both our similarities and our differences and broaden our minds and horizons. Travel teaches us about humanity and gives us an appreciation, understanding, and respect for different points of view and ways of life that may help us to ourselves and re-evaluate our values and priorities in life.

People travel to wonder, at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering.St. Augustin

We travel because we need to, because distance, diversity, and meeting the unknown are the secret boost of creativity and ingenuity. When we get home, home is still the same. But something inside us has been changed forever, and that changes everything.

Nine Reasons Why Traveling is Good For You:
  1. Traveling is easier than you think.
  2. Travel opens your eyes.
  3. Traveling helps you learn who you are.
  4. Traveling develops skills you didn’t know you had.
  5. Traveling provides you with perspective.
  6. Travel challenges you.
  7. Traveling proves that dreams do come true.
  8. Travel gives you a sense of accomplishment.
  9. Travel is literally food for thought.
